Portuguese side Sporting on Wednesday released a document revealing the details of all the transfers they made in 2023.

The Lisbon media is usually on the money about those transactions, so there hasn’t been big news about the deals made by the Lions.

There is just one transfer that is being covered by outlets such as Record, which is Issahaku Fatawu’s move to Leicester City.

What wasn’t known about this deal is that the Foxes had paid €750k to sign the winger on a year-long loan spell.

As previously reported, Leicester City can sign the player at the end of the spell, with Record claiming that’d cost them €17m.

The outlet claims that clause will be automatically triggered in case the Foxes get promotion to the Premier League this season.

Since his arrival at Leicester City, Fatawu has one goal and one assist in 13 appearances.

Just recently, the Portuguese media had been claiming Sporting were excited with the Foxes’ start to the season, as they hope they’ll get promoted and the sale will go through.

Leicester City’s Victor Kristiansen has experienced a ‘hectic’ year, according to Ekstra Bladet.

The 20-year-old left FC Copenhagen to join the Foxes in January and he made 12 league appearances for the latter in the second half of last season.

Leicester were relegated from the Premier League last season and the left-back was allowed to join Bologna on loan in the summer window.

Enzo Maresca took charge of the club for this season and the report states the manager wanted to convert the Denmark international into a centre-back. This didn’t please the defender and help convinced him to make a temporary switch to Bologna.

“I noticed (the position change) when we were at training camp this summer, but missed being part of the offensive game. So I was happy that we could jointly find a solution,” he told Ekstra Bladet.

Brendan Rodgers was Leicester’s manager when the defender arrived at the club.

Prior to his move to England, he spent his time at Copenhagen. On his decision to move to Leicester, Kristiansen explained: “It has been hard. I probably experienced the hardest way to go abroad.

“I joined a dysfunctional team with a coach under pressure, who was then fired [in April]. I was in a difficult position as a young and newly acquired player, where I suddenly had to help save the club.

“I was alone and thought for a quiet moment if it is really like this to be abroad. It was hard to deal with, and it has left some scars on the soul. It was definitely not what I was hoping for when I went out. That’s why I was happy that this summer we could find a solution, so I was loaned out to Bologna.”

The Dane has made 10 appearances this season for the Serie A side, who have an option to make his stay permanent. The Leicester owned player remains hopeful that he can extend his stay at Bologna beyond this season.

“I have settled in very well at Bologna and hope that we will find a good solution next summer,” he added.

Tottenham Hotspur are in the picture to sign Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

The midfielder has a deal expiring in 2024 and the possibility of securing his services for free next summer has attracted Barcelona.

According to Punch Sports Extra, the 26-year-old could make a ‘huge switch’ away from Leicester next summer, and the La Liga side will have to battle it out with Tottenham for his signature.

The Nigeria international was linked with a move away from the King Power Stadium in the last window, following the Foxes’ relegation. He can walk away for free after this season, if Leicester fail to tie him down to a new deal.

It’s said the possibility of the player renewing will depend on Enzo Maresca’s side returning to the top flight. Leicester are currently leading the Championship table and are eight ahead of third placed Leeds United.

Spurs seem to have already started work to try to sign Ndidi next summer. Punch Sports Extra make no mention of whether Tottenham would still battle it out if he were to sign a new deal at Leicester.

Ndidi has three goals and four assists from 15 games this season.

Back in Leicester City’s first-team after being shunned by Brendan Rodgers, Jannik Vestergaard is enjoying himself with Enzo Maresca in charge, as the Foxes top the table.

The centre-back is also back in the Denmark squad, which he’s delighted about, but all this has also brought some interest from clubs, such as Anderlecht.

This is what HLN are reporting on Tuesday, relayed by Walfoot, who explain that a recent injury to Jan Vertonghen caused the Belgian side to think about signing a new centre-back, just in case something serious were to happen to the former Tottenham man or Zeno Debast.

That’s where the Leicester player comes in, as HLN recalls Anderlecht were already interested in him over the summer, and that is unlikely to have changed.

As well as Vestergaard, Viborg defender Nicolas Bürgy is also likely on the list, but it’s also pointed out that anyone who would arrive in January would have to be patient, as the idea would be for Vertonghen and Debast to finish the season together.

Whether that’s a situation the Leicester player would want to join remains to be seen, especially when taking into account the fact his team are topping the Championship and he is a key player with Maresca.

For a very long time when Brendan Rodgers was in charge at Leicester City, Jannik Vestergaard barely set foot on a football pitch.

The Dane was shunned to one side by the now Celtic manager, but everything has turned around for the centre-back since the arrival of Enzo Maresca, who has fully trusted the defender this season.

In turn, the Leicester has repaid this faith with good performances, which have seen him return to the Denmark national team after a 17-month absence, which the player was more than happy to talk about with Bold and other members of the media.

Asked if he ever felt like his international career was over when he was down in the dumps in England, he said: “I didn’t really feel like I was out, even if I wasn’t there, but I wouldn’t have opted out either. I didn’t just get a little playing time, I didn’t get any playing time. It really hurt not to be a part of something that I feel I was a part of.”

Not picked for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Leicester player was forced to watch his teammates from afar, and felt he had to support them even if it was painful knowing that he could have helped them.

Still, that’s all behind him now, and he’s just glad that Kasper Hjulmand was ready to give him a role in the Denmark team.

Vestergaard added: “It’s really nice to be back. For me, the national team is the biggest, both career-wise and emotionally, so to have been out and see it all from a distance compared to now be in a place where I have earned my place, it makes me both happy and proud.”

The 31-year-old has started in all but one of the 16 Championship games this season under Maresca, totally 1350 minutes of football, which is a huge increase on the 193 minutes he managed all of last season, all in the cups, under Brendan Rodgers.

Ayoze Perez left Leicester City in the 2023 winter transfer window, just months before his Foxes deal came to an end.

He moved to Real Betis on loan until the summer, and then was signed on a permanent contract by the Sevilla club.

It sealed the player’s return to Spain after he’d spent much of his career in England speaking about it. Routinely throughout his time with Newcastle United, Perez would speak to the Spanish media and talk up the prospect of a move to La Liga.

That didn’t happen and when it came time to leave the Magpies, he instead headed to Leicester City.

It would appear he didn’t feel fully valued there, at least towards the end of his time with the club, and the move to Betis was like a breath of fresh air for the versatile attacker.

Speaking to AS, he’s been asked about Isco signing for Betis and how well it’s helped the former Real Madrid player.

Perez thought he was able to relate: “It happened to me a bit the same, that’s why I stayed. I felt happy again playing football, I felt like a footballer again and that is priceless. I understand Isco perfectly.”

Leaving Leicester City for OGC Nice, Kasper Schmeichel never managed to find happiness in the south of France, which is why he is now at Anderlecht.

He moved to Belgium this summer, and finally gave his first interview after joining the club, where he was asked a number of questions, including some about his time at the King Power Stadium.

Relayed by HLN, the goalkeeper talked about the many players who have crossed over from Anderlecht to Leicester, including now retired centre-back Marcin Wasilewski,

The 43-year-old spent four years with the Foxes between 2013 and 2017, and is now part of a growing list of footballers to have featured for both clubs, such as Dennis Praet and Youri Tielemans.

Schmeichel talked in depth about the former Poland international, and had nothing other than great things to say about him.

He said: “I know his status (at Anderlecht), he also has a huge tattoo of Anderlecht on his leg. At Leicester, groups of Anderlecht fans were regularly in the stands just to watch Wasilewski at work. That illustrates the bond he has with this club.”

Asked if the player was still as ‘crazy’ as he used to be, the goalkeeper replied: “I wouldn’t call him crazy, he’s a great guy. An example for everyone, not just for the young players. I remember when he came on trial at Leicester, and from his first day, he immediately tackled one of the key players.

“The manager, Nigel Pearson, immediately gave him the yes. I have not seen a player as determined as Wasilewski in my career. He only has one gear: sixth.”

The defender went on to make 77 appearances for Leicester over the course of his time there, including 30 in the Premier League.

By contract, he featured 194 times for Anderlecht, where he scored 22 goals and assisted another 11, which is no mean feat considering he mainly played in the heart of their defence.

After six years at Leicester City, Nampalys Mendy eventually let his contract run down and left the Championship side on a free this summer.

Originally brought in to try and help with the exit of N’Golo Kanté, the midfielder never managed to fully settle at the King Power Stadium, and spent a lot of his time watching his teammates from afar, and even went on a loan to OGC Nice during the 2017-18 season.

The arrival of Brendan Rodgers didn’t help him either, and he spent the last few years struggling to get any sort of consistent game time, which he isn’t happy about, telling L’Equipe as much on Wednesday.

Now at RC Lens, where he gets to play Champions League football, the defensive midfielder was asked about his time in England, which he was delighted to unload about.

He said: “Everything was going well until (Claude) Puel got fired (in February 2019). Another manager arrived in Brendan Rodgers, and he gradually pushed me aside. I never head back. He just kept tell me: ‘I have nothing to reproach you for’. And the worst thing is that when I wanted to leave, the club refused. In the end, I was just waiting for my contract to end. Honestly, I’ve come alive again since that moment.”

In his six years at Leicester, Mandy did manage to make 118 appearances in all competitions, but it’s clear that he didn’t really enjoy that much of his time there, especially the last few seasons.

He’s now much happier in France at Lens, where he has started all three of their Champions League games, and featured in three of their last six Ligue 1 fixtures.

Sevilla are ‘already considering’ activating the purchase option they have on Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumaré after his impressive early performances at the club.

That’s according to El Sevillista, who say the Spanish side are determined to sign the midfielder on a permanent basis and not lose him.

Soumaré joined Sevilla on a season long loan deal from Leicester in the summer, joining the list of players to leave the Foxes following their relegation last season.

That loan deal includes an option for the deal to be made permanent for €15m and Sevilla are now ‘determined’ to activate it.

According to the website, Soumaré’s ‘excellent performance’ against Arsenal in the Champions League this week was one of several this season and he’s more than proven to be a ‘valuable acquisition’ for the Spanish cub.

He’s ‘generated positive expectations’ and as a result Sevilla are already considered exercising the purchase option that they have on him.

His ‘skill and solidity’ in midfield have become ‘fundamental’ to the team and Sevila are now ‘determined’ to ensure he remains and doesn’t return to Leicester at the end of the season.

Whether that means they look to buy him early, in the January transfer window for example, or wait until next summer remains to be seen but it seems they’re keen on using that clause either way.

Leicester City’s start to the season has been a reason for big excitement in Portugal.

Sporting are hoping the Foxes get promoted to the Premier League, so they’ll have to buy Issahaku Fatawu from the Lions.

Portuguese newspaper Record is the one featuring a story about the winger, who has just been named in the Championship’s team of the week.

Fatawu scored a goal in Leicester City’s 3-1 away win against Swansea City, and that obviously helped his nomination.

As Sporting watch the situation, they know his good performances aren’t enough for his loan to turn into a permanent move, as the purchase clause is actually tied to promotion.

Record recalls that in case Leicester City do make it to the Premier League next season, then they’ll have to pay the Portuguese club €17m for the signing.

Fatawu wasn’t exactly wanted at the Lisbon side, and is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €4m, so that’d be a great piece of business for the Lions.

With Leicester City having a good start to the season, Sporting are now said to be ‘rubbing their hands together’.
