Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has admitted he would love to go back and play for his former club Västerås SK in future.
The centre-back has been speaking to Fotboll Skanalen after linking up with Sweden for the latest international break.
One of the subjects they wanted to cover was his former club Västerås SK, who recently secured a return to the Allsvenskan, Sweden’s top flight, after a 26-year absence.
That came as a ‘great joy’ to the Manchester United defender, who started his career with the club’s youth team and went on to make 40 appearances in all competitions for the first team before joining Benfica in 2015.
His current contract at Old Trafford expires in 2024, although Manchester United do have an option to extend it by another year.
At 29-years-old he is now very much in the final third of his playing career and he admits that he hopes that will include a return to his former club.
“I hope they are ready to take the step. Västerås as a city I think needs to have a club in the highest league. It was about time,” he said.
“I hope that the people on the board and around have a handle on the situation so that they can establish themselves in the Allsvenskan.
“I have never played in the Allsvenskan and it is clear that it would have been fun to come home and play for a year in the Allsvenskan. We’ll see how the body feels in a few years because I feel that I don’t want to come home and be half injured and not be able to perform at a good level.
“Getting to come home and play with VSK would be a lot of fun. It’s my hometown. Should it happen that I come home, it is definitely at the top of the list.”
