With Sven Botman currently injured, as well as the likes of Matt Targett and Dan Burn being out of action, Newcastle United are a bit light in defence these days.

That’s why seeing the Magpies being linked with a move for a new centre-back isn’t overly surprising, especially a young one.

The news comes from Jeunes Footeux in France, who claim that Newcastle are looking at Zeno Debast, currently one of the exciting talents at Anderlecht.

The 20-year-old has been a regular for the Jupiler Pro League side, and has even four Belgium caps to his name, with him seemingly having a ‘great future’.

Newcastle are very keen on him, and the website claim that ‘representatives of the Magpies’ were present on Wednesday night to watch him play for his country against Serbia.

This is the ‘umpteenth time’ they have watched him, but they aren’t the only ones after him, because an unnamed Bundesliga team is ‘also very interested’.

What works in Newcastle’s favour is that Debast is only contracted to Anderlecht until 2025, meaning a decision will need to be made next summer as to whether going for a big transfer now or extending at his current club for a bit longer.
