Former Huddersfield Town forward Rajiv van La Parra has told Algemeen Dagblad that he had offered himself to several top clubs before joining Almere City on a free transfer earlier this year.

The 32-year-old spent three years at the Kirklees Stadium between 2016 and 2019, and managed seven goals and five assists from 102 games for the Terriers.

In his first season at Huddersfield Town, Van La Parra was part of the squad that achieved promotion to the Premier League. He was a regular for them the following season but had an up and down time.

Last month, the Dutchman was seen celebrating with Almere City psychologist Annemieke Zijerveld after he scored in his side’s 2-0 win over FC Utrecht.

AD now say the pair received a lot of interview requests after the tie, and Van La Parra has talked about how the psychologist has helped him in his career.

“I didn’t expect that. But actually, that’s only a good thing. The outside world may think that we are all machos, but there is also a sensitive side,” he said.

“I’m not the only player who needs help sometimes. Denzel Dumfries spoke out during the last World Cup. He also benefited a lot from Annemieke. It’s good that so much attention is being paid to it.”

The attacker has also revealed that a psychologist visited Huddersfield Town twice a year during his time with the English club, and he sounds like he wishes he’d got more from that.

“He then spoke to the group about the mental aspects that top athletes can face. That in itself wasn’t of much use. But that was also my fault. Everything moves so fast in the football world. You go from match to match and you never have time to think calmly. Yes, if you don’t have a club and no one wants you. But then it’s actually too late,” Van La Parra explained.

Huddersfield Town are about to get a bit of money, if L’Equipe in France are to be believed, as Udinese are on the verge of signing Etienne Camara.

The 20-year-old has been with the Championship side since his arrive from Angers SCO in 2020, and has grown through the ranks over the years.

He made his breakthrough in the first-team last season, appearing 20 times in the league for Huddersfield, and clearly impressed the Serie A side.

L’Equipe reveal the young midfielder, who represented his country during the last U20 World Cup in Argentina, will sign for Udinese for the next five years.

In fact, the player will ‘undergo his medical’ on Wednesday afternoon, and his new club will pay Huddersfield a sum of €1.5m to acquire his services.

It does seem like a low amount for quite a promising player, but it’s clear he wasn’t in the immediate plans of Neil Warnock at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Prior to his move to Angers SCO in 2019, he represented US Torcy between 2009 and 2019, which is where he caught the eye of the now relegated former Ligue 1 side.

At Huddersfield Town for a couple of seasons, Carlos Corberán oversaw 102 games at the Championship side, picking up an average of 1.41 points per game.

He was never sacked, but decided to leave, eventually taking up the managerial spot at Olympiacos in Greece earlier on in the summer.

He only managed 11 games, however, before the owner decided to change things, getting rid of Corberán on September 18th.

The former Huddersfield manager was only in the job for six weeks, and he understands that a club of that stature needs to meet certain objectives, which he wasn’t entirely able to do, expressing as much in an interview with AS in Spain.

He said: “The first objective was fulfilled, which was to put the team in the Europa League and then, obviously, those games came with league games for the start of the league. When you sign with Olympiacos you know that it is a winning club, where you have to get the results and they give you time and not the other way around.

“There are clubs that give you time to achieve results and others in which it is the results that allow you to have the time to express the idea of playing that will continue to allow you to achieve results. I am very aware of the team I came to, of the winning mentality they have and for that I do not have any kind of frustration. You always want to develop your work and achieve the goals you set for yourself”

Either way, he is now without a club, and he also spent a bit of time discussing his exit from the John Smith’s Stadium.

He said: “After that promotion (with Leeds), I received a call from Huddersfield and I spent two seems with the team until this summer. I put an end to the contract that linked us because I wanted to aspire to a club ambitious in sporting achievements, and that was the reason why Olympiacos arrived six weeks ago.”

During his time at Huddersfield Town, Corberán had a rather poor first season, finishing 20th in the league, but the club gave him time to instil his ideas, which paid off.

The Spaniard then took the club to third the following season, winning 23 games from a possible 46, reaching the playoff final, where they eventually lost to Nottingham Forest due to a Levi Colwill own goal.

Catalan newspaper Diari de Girona today features a nice piece on Huddersfield Town’s chances of being promoted to the Premier League. To talk about that, they interviewed the Terriers’ assistant manager Narcis Pelach, who’s clearly excited about the season they’re having.

The outlet asked the official about the assessment he makes of this year at the club, and the coach was clear about how satisfied the coaching team are with the squad’s performance.

“It’s a 10. Against all odds, Huddersfield have fought with the big ones. It’s the strength of the group, the illusion of a dream,” Pelach told Diari de Girona.

“People have come together with a lot of desire to get their heads working humbly. That everyone has the same profile has made us go so far. We would like to end it in the best way, although we have to be realistic because reaching the final is already a success. We will try to achieve the desired promotion without pressure.”

Regarding that usual question of foreign outlets wanting to know the difference that English football has to others, Pelach pointed out how packed the stadiums are in the Championship, with all clubs having a decent number of fans.

“It’s very passionate. The main difference I’ve noticed is that people here are on your team. In Spain it’s brought together by the biggest clubs such as Barça, Madrid, Atlético, Sevilla… Not here. Everyone belongs to their club.

“It’s spectacular because no matter where you go, there are 20,000 or 30,000 people. In the Championship, the stadiums are full, with almost always 90% capacity, and the televisions have less effect. Matches are played without moving to accommodate the broadcast. It’s nice to see and live.”

Huddersfield Town play Nottingham Forest on Sunday in a game that could take them back to the Premier League. When asked if his stay at the club would depend on the Terriers’ promotion to the top flight, Pelach had a very clear answer about it.

“No. Whether we go up or not, everything stays the same.”

And the one thing he doesn’t like in England? You guessed it, the weather.

Huddersfiled Town confirmed to have completed the signing of Carel Eiting on the last day of the January transfer window.

The midfielder spent the 2020/21 season on loan with the Championship side from Ajax and was a regular for the Terriers, whenever he was eligible for selection. He managed three goals and three assists from 23 league games for the English club.

Last summer, Ajax let the 23-year-old to join Genk on a permanent deal and he signed a four-year deal with them. The Dutchman made 19 appearances in all competitions, managing only one assist in the process.

Genk were eliminated from the Europa League after finishing fourth in their group and were also knocked out of the domestic cup competition. Therefore, the Jupiler Pro League side had to trim down the squad for the second half of the season.

The Belgium club let Eiting, Bastien Toma and Iké Ugbo move elsewhere in January. The latter two were allowed to go out on loan deals, while Genk terminated the ex-Ajax man’s contract. This was confirmed by their chief, Dimitri De Condé.

“We did not have the feeling that Carel could become important to us. Not in the short and not in the long term. He did not have that feeling either and that is why it was decided in mutual consultation to terminate his contract,” De Condé told Het Laatste Nieuws.

RB Leipzig star Amadou Haidara is a player that Manchester United Ralf Rangnick ‘loves’, but the German club are working to remove his release clause.

That’s according to club chief Oliver Mintzlaff, who commented on United’s reported interest in the Leipzig midfielder.

Manchester United are expected to be busy in the market in the coming months after confirming Rangnick as their manager last week.

He’s seemingly been given free reign at the club, particularly when it comes to transfers, and that has led to rumours linking him with several RB players.

Haidara is at the top of the list, particularly as the midfielder has made it clear in the past that the Red Devils are his favourite club.

He could be available as he has a release clause in his contract, something Manchester United can take advantage of if Rangnick makes it clear he would like the player.

That’s something RB chief Mintzlaff was asked about in a press conference yesterday according to RB Live, at which point he admitted ‘of course, he is also a player that Ralf Rangnick loves’.

He, though, poured cold water on transfer rumours, for the time being, insisting that ‘there is nothing burning now for the time being’ before admitting that the club are trying to ‘bring about a different situation’ when it comes to Haidara’s ‘exit scenario’.

That’s in reference to his release clause, which it seems they’re now not happy about and want to try and change if they can.

That would suggest they’re concerned about the rumours around Manchester United, even if there’s nothing concrete going on at this moment in time.

That could change, though, particularly if Rangnick is such as fan, and perhaps United would be wise to move quickly if they want to get their man.

Known for it’s role in the industrial revolution and as the birthplace of rugby league, Huddersfield has many qualities. It seems, though, bread is not one of them.

Now, this is not something we’ve had any personal experience of but there’s no smoke without fire and we’ve seen smoke on more than one occasion.

For example, back in September 2019 we covered quotes from former Huddersfield Town defender Erik Durm, who was left seriously unimpressed with the bread situation during his time at the club.

Speaking to Frankfurter Allgemeine he explained how he ‘only ate toast for a year’ but there was ‘no bread in the end’ and how he had missed ‘getting fresh bread’ in the morning.

Embed from Getty Images

The suggestion from him was that the bread situation, or the skills of the bakeries, in Huddersfield wasn’t great, at least compared to what’s happening on the bread scene back in Germany.

The comments were the sort of throwaway ones that you have a laugh about a move on from but it seem there’s a real bread emergency going on.

BILD have an interview with Christopher Schindler today, in which he details his own struggles with bread.

He’s set to leave Huddersfield and return to Germany this summer, something he’s seemingly very happy about because he can finally get decent bread rolls again.

Under a title ‘Schindler is happy about rolls’, the newspaper details how he can ‘buy real rolls again’ after his time in England.

“The closeness to home is what my wife and I have lost the most in the last five years,” he told them.

“That’s why it’s really nice to be able to go to the bakery in the morning again and buy rolls. Even something like that wasn’t possible on the island.”

Schindler doesn’t detail why this wasn’t possible in the UK, but from his comments and Durm’s, the best we can deduce is there is an extreme shortage of bakeries in Huddersfield.

Or alternatively, this is all some huge inside joke that we’re really not getting. Either way, if we were the Terriers, we’d consider opening a bakery, or at least getting a baker into the club to keep any potential future German signings happy.

Back on Monday, Portuguese newspaper Record featured a story claiming that Sporting are interested in signing Huddersfield Town’s Pipa.

It was said that the Lions are looking for a back-up option for the right-back position, and the 23-year-old is one of the names on their list, especially because he’d be available for only €2m.

It turns out that Record managed to speak to Pipa today. And the Terriers’ player had some good things to say about Sporting, admitting that a transfer would be possible.

“I saw the news, I know Sporting are the Portuguese champions and a great club. I even have a friend there, Porro,” Pipa told Record.

“Right now I’m on vacation, but working at the same time to be able to perform in the best conditions at my club, Huddersfield. I leave my future in the hands of my agents and at the right time I’ll talk to them to analyse what exists.

“I don’t rule out anything; in fact, I have to admit and evaluate all the hypotheses.”

Record writes once again that Pipa is one of the names who Sporting have ‘on the table’ for this transfer window. They highlight the fact that there are other players being evaluated by the club, so there’s no guarantee the Lions will try to make a deal with Huddersfield Town.

Now when speaking of his price, they refer to the €2m as his ‘market value’, instead of claiming he’d be available for that amount, like they did on Monday.

Newspaper Record explains that the Lions have been searching for a right-back, and after failing in the negotiations for Braga’s Ricardo Esgaio, they now look for the next names in the list.

Sporting are currently ‘evaluating’ Pipa’s signing, and know he’d be a cheap option, since the player is available for only €2m.

It seems there’s still no decision on who the Lions’ target will really be, but as things stand, he’s well placed in the list options the Lisbon side have in their hands.

Pipa joined Huddersfield Town last summer, on a €700m deal from Espanyol.

Record highlights the fact that he didn’t have a great campaign on a team level, since the Terriers were only 20th in the Championship, but the outlet points out hemanaged to make 37 appearances for the club in his first season.

He also had two goals and four assists.

Carlos Corberán stepped down from his position as Marcelo Bielsa’s assistant at Leeds United to become Huddersfield Town manager last summer.

In his first season at the Kirklees Stadium, the Terriers finished 20th after accumulating 49 points.

Mundo Deportivo interviewed the 38-year-old and asked him to review his debut season as a first team coach in the Championship.

“It has been a very demanding season. Last summer I joined a transition project at a club that wanted to start working with young people to stabilise it in the Championship,” he said.

“It is a family club. For me, working in England is a pleasure. At the infrastructure level, this country is a reference. Huddersfield’s experience in the Premier League (from 2017 to 2019) helped them grow a lot.”

The Spaniard, however, insisted the club’s plan is to return to the top flight.

“We work to establish the foundations of a philosophy and a style of play. The club’s social mass has the ambition to return to the Premier, but it is important to find a good balance between illusion and reality,” Corberán explained.

He first arrived in England when Leeds United appointed him as their U23 manager in 2017. A year later he became part of Marcelo Bielsa’s coaching setup after the Argentine arrived at Elland Road.

Bielsa was instrumental in helping the Whites return to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.

Corberán, who considers himself lucky to have worked with the former Athletic Club Bilbao manager, revealed the work done by Bielsa at Leeds inspired him to take the managerial job at Huddersfield.

“Marcelo is a person I had previously considered, and when I worked with him, I understood why there was so much admiration for his figure,” Corberán stressed.

“Having had the chance to spend two years in his backroom staff is something that one keeps and obviously I can only be grateful. Having worked with him is fortunate.

“When Marcelo arrived, Leeds were a sleeping giant. Being in his team, the fact that other clubs wanted to imitate what had happened in Leeds, positioned me and gave me the option of joining a Championship club. Without that, I would hardly be at Huddersfield.”

After a disappointing campaign with Huddersfield, Corberán will be hoping his side can finish much higher in the table next season.
