It appears that Cardiff City have made their first move to try and entice Gareth Bale to move to back to Wales permanently.

The story, strangely enough, comes from France, where Foot Mercato published an article as an exclusive revealing the details of what the Championship side have put forward.

Talk of Bale potentially heading to Cardiff City has been rife even before his contract at Real Madrid ended, but there have been big question marks, especially when it comes to the wages the Bluebirds could offer him.

After all, the Welsh star has been used to a rather luxurious wage in Spain, and while he has made it clear on numerous occasions that money wasn’t the reason why he would choose his next club, he is also unlikely to play for free.

Numbers aren’t included in the article from Foot Mercato, but the website do reveal Cardiff City have offered Bale ‘a two-year contract with an option for an extra year’.

As for the forward, he ‘isn’t against’ the idea of returning to Wales, and is ‘taking more time to reflect’.

However, over at Cardiff City, they are ‘rather confident’.

Let’s see…

HSV Hamburg are eyeing a deal for Cardiff City striker Robert Glatzel following his loan deal at Mainz last season.

That’s according to BILD, who say a deal worth €500,000 is being ‘discussed’ by the two clubs.

Glatzel spent the second half of last season on loan with German side Mainz, but the move proved to be a largely unsuccessful one as he managed just two goals and one assist in 13 appearances in the Bundesliga.

He’s returning to Cardiff this summer yet could be returning to Germany as Hamburg look to ‘strengthen their attack’.

They’re eyeing Glatzel, who still has a deal at Cardiff until 2022, and a transfer fee of ‘around €500,000 is being discussed’.

He knows the 2.Bundesliga well after a spell at Heidenheim from 2017 to 2019, in which he scored 24 goals and registered ten assists in 61 games.

It is presumably that which is attracting HSV, who are ready to offer him a way out of Cardiff permanently after a disappointing two years since his €5.4m move in 2019.

Younousse Sankharé’s dispute with Bordeaux is now over, and the player, who had been pushed to one side by manager Paulo Sousa, is free to do what he wants.

We have tried to keep on top of things, as both Cardiff City and Sheffield United were reportedly interested in the midfielder in the summer.

There was a dispute, one where lawyers had to get involved on both sides, but it’s all finally come to a close, and Sankharé is now a free agent.

Local French newspaper 20 Minutes broke the news on Wednesday, explaining that a number of sides around Europe were interested in the player, and while neither the Championship or the Premier League side are mentioned, that’s not to say the prospect of a free transfer won’t be enticing to them.

However, things have changed at Cardiff City Stadium recently after Neil Warnock was sacked, and with no new full-time manager appointed as of yet, there might be a reluctance to jump into things with James Rowberry currently acting as inter.

As for Sheffield United, Chris Wilder has done a great job so far after gaining promotion to England’s top-tier in the summer with his side currently sitting fifth in the table after 12 games.

Perhaps a bit of added depth at midfield is just what he needs to ensure the second half of the season isn’t too taxing.

However, the Blades might have to wait for an answer if they do make a move, as 20 Minutes reckon Sankharé will wait until January 1st 2020 before making his mind up.

Moving abroad can be a difficult experience and it’s something we don’t often consider when analysing transfers in football.

Sometimes a player can’t settle in his new country, with a longing for his homeland, or wherever he felt most at home, affecting him in more ways than one.

Former Cardiff City man Lex Immers is a player who can tell you all about that. The Dutchman moved to Cardiff on loan from Feyenoord in January 2016, with the Welsh club electing to turn it into a permanent move that summer.

He never settled, though, making 13 appearances for Cardiff that season and just two of those coming between October and January.

That winter window saw him depart Cardiff for Club Brugge, with the Bluebirds electing to let him leave on a free transfer, just six months after paying £2m to sign him permanently.

Now 33, Immers is at Ado den Haag and, talking to FOX Sports, looked back on his time at Cardiff and the lengths he went to to get out of the club.

“I could no longer go to my parents, drink a cup of coffee,” he told the show, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

“I could no longer do my thing like spending a night at the café. You can take the plane home but does that make any sense?

“At one point, I thought, “I’m out. “I said to Frank (Schouten, his agent), close to tears: ‘I’m opting out, money is no longer necessary for me’

“If you don’t arrange for me to be able to go home, I’ll quit completely and start painting. I really did say that! Money is not important at all.”

Such is the giant black cloud that is Brexit; no industry in the United Kingdom hasn’t been affected by it in some way.

Britain’s impending departure from the European Union is causing problems across numerous sectors, and even the football transfer market is feeling the repercussions.

While Brexit is yet to happen, it’s already something players have to consider when it comes to making a move. And that’s precisely what stopped Loren Morón from moving to either Cardiff of West Brom this summer, at least according to claims from Spain.

The striker was linked with both clubs during the transfer window, and we even covered a report that said the Real Betis striker had turned down a move to the Bluebirds on deadline day, although no reason for that decision was given at the time.

Diario de Sevilla provide the answer today, saying the 25-year-old turned down the chance to swap Spain for the UK this summer as he didn’t want to ‘tempt fate’ when it came to Brexit.

Entirely what his concern over Brexit was isn’t explained, although given how far-ranging it is, it really could have been anything.

Like Brexit, it seems negotiations to sell the striker to either Cardiff or West Brom were not exactly smooth anyway, with Diario explaining that Betis had been ‘frustrated’ in their attempts to get between €9-10m from Cardiff for the striker.

Things have worked out pretty well for the striker regardless, with him currently the joint top goalscorer in La Liga and the new darling of Betis.

Cardiff and West Brom, meanwhile, are probably cursing their luck that Brexit stopped them signing a striker they both desperately need this season.

Over the summer, one of the strange stories in the French media was that of Younousse Sankharé and his potential sacking from Bordeaux.

The midfielder, who was reportedly a target for both Cardiff City and Sheffield United, saw himself pushed to one side by new manager Paulo Sousa, and then barred from entering the club’s premises entirely after the Ligue 1 side announced those fringe players would be allowed to return.

A meeting with the club and a lawyer ensued, and the wide belief was he would have his contracted rescinded, but that has yet to happen.

In fact, both Sankharé and Bordeaux are set to appear in front of the French league’s legal committee to potentially find a financial compromise that would see both parties part ways, according to 20 Minutes.

The Ligue 1 club are accusing their player of many things, including him having an operation for beard implants after a loss to Paris Saint-Germain in February.

He asked the club if he could stay around to undergo the procedure, and, according to him, got permission.

However, a few days later, he turned up to training all ‘bundled up’ and didn’t play for the next month.

The reasons as to why are unclear, but, according to 20 Minutes, Bordeaux are adamant they didn’t allow him to get beard implants.

Furthermore, Bordeaux accuse him of ‘unjustified training absences’ as well as ‘bad behaviour’ through his complicated relationship with Paulo Sousa.

Either way, it could end up that Cardiff City and Sheffield United, if they still are interested, find themselves with the possibility of signing him on a free in the near future to bolster the teams at Cardiff City Stadium and Bramall Lane.

Then again, we’ll have to see if Neil Warnock and Chris Wilder will still want him with all these problems as potential baggage that could disrupt their squads.

On Thursday, we covered an article about the Younousse Sankharé situation at Bordeaux and how Cardiff City, who agreed a transfer for the player with the Ligue 1 club over the summer (which never went through), could profit from it down the line.

Pushed to one side by manager Paulo Sousa while his future was up in the air, the midfielder was expected to return to the squad on Thursday in order to reintegrate the group and train with them.

Three other players were in the same boat, and while Thomas Carrique, Paul Baysse and Jonathan Cafu all turned up, the Cardiff summer target wasn’t.

20 Minutes in France explain that’s because he’s been ‘suspended as a precaution’, and while the midfielder tried to turn up to the club’s training ground, he ‘wasn’t able to access the car park or the dressing room’.

The same journalist who published the article explained to France Bleu a couple of days ago there could be a chance of Bordeaux cancelling Sankharé contract, and Clément Carpentier writes that instead of joining up with the team, the player and agent were ‘invited to the club offices’.

They were greeted by deputy chairman Frédéric Longuépée, a bailiff and a member of Human Resources, who told them he would would be suspended for a week and that a ‘disciplinary procedure’ had been opened.

The reason behind this move, however, are yet to be revealed.

As things stand, 20 Minutes believe everything seems to be pointing towards Sankharé getting fired i.e. his contract being cancelled, much like Gustavo Poyet was a year or so ago.

A new meeting could take place next Thursday, and the player will use that time to prepare his defence.

If Cardiff are still keen on him, then now is the time to pay attention.

Towards the middle of July, we covered a story that Cardiff City were interested in Younnousse Sankharé, currently contracted to Bordeaux in France.

The Championship side were looking to strengthen their defence with the midfielder, but were facing competition for his services from a couple of La Liga sides.

In the end, the player ended up staying in the south of France, but that doesn’t mean his situation is all the better for it, as his manager doesn’t have him in his plans going forward.

Speaking to France Bleu, journalist Clément Carpentier explained what exactly happened over the summer and detailed how far talks over a move to the Cardiff City Stadium went.

He said, relayed by Girondins33: “After two months being pushed to one side, Sankharé will return to Paulo Sousa’s group, and the reunion with the manager could be interesting. He didn’t want the player, and the club did everything to try and get him out, reaching an agreement with Cardiff, Leganés and Alavés.

“The player was ready to go, especially to Leganés, but in the end, it all fell through meaning he’s still here despite having an extremely tense relationship with Sousa.”.

The journalist explained a ‘contract termination’ is something that could happen, but isn’t something being talked about just yet.

As for Cardiff, they ended up signing Marlon Pack to bolster their midfield, and it remains to be seen if their interest in Sankharé is still there.

If he becomes a free agent, we’ll find out soon enough.

Towards the end of the English transfer window, we covered a story in L’Equipe claiming Cardiff City were ‘in contact’ with Le Havre’s Alimami Gory.

Unfortunately, the transfer didn’t go through, and the same newspaper have a big double page article as to why that was the case.

The tale appears to be a mix of miscommunications and confusion, with a sprinkle of Willie McKay thrown on top to make matters worse.

L’Equipe start off by explaining it all began in late July when Cardiff highlighted Gory as an attacking reinforcement after their return to the Championship.

Jean-Marc Goiran, the Welsh club’s president’s advisor, got in touch with Le Havre’s general director, Pierre Wantiez, to declare their interest in the forward, which is standard procedure.

He was then given Gory’s agent number by the Ligue 2 side in order to let them know about their desire to sign the his client.

Once that was done, the two clubs started talking on a fee, and Le Havre asked the representative to convince the forward this was a good opportunity for him.

Gory wasn’t thinking about leaving for his club, but once he heard Cardiff were interested, he saw the chance of playing in England and getting closer to the Premier League.

At this point, the Championship side offered €1.5m, which was some way off the €3.5m Le Havre were asking for.

Fast forward to August 1st, and Cardiff City make a second offer of €2m + €750k in bonuses in case they returned to the Premier League and 20% of any future sale, telling the French club they had until August 3rd to reply, after which the offer would expire.

L’Equipe claim a Welsh source told them Le Havre then did absolutely nothing, and only replied after a follow-up from the Championship side, letting them know they were aware of the offer.

That’s when Gory decided to try and force a move quietly, sitting out from training so as to ‘not disturb the group’ and then sending a ‘friendly and respectful’ text to his club’s president, Vincent Volpe, explaining the move was a dream for him.

However, Volpe never replied, and this is when things started turning a bit sour.

L’Equipe explain the text was used by the Le Havre president as an ‘argument’ to send a warning to Cardiff, feeling there was some tapping up going on, which Goiran, the advisor to the Welsh club’s president, firmly denies.

This is when Willie McKay enters the scene, known to be in contact with Volpe, and believed to have been ‘verbally mandated to prospect in England’.

The (unlicensed) intermediary admitted to L’Equipe he did have a chat with the Le Havre president, but denies having been mandated, simply stating: “Volpe only told me Cardiff were trying to screw him over, but he never asked me anything”.

The Ligue 2 side also deny mandating McKay, or anyone else for that matter.

After receiving the aforementioned warning, Cardiff allegedly received a message from Le Havre telling them that for €2.5m, the deal could get done and the warning would be forgotten, to which Mehmet Dalman said: “We don’t work like that. We don’t make offers under threat”.

The French club deny this, and simply explain the reason why the transfer never materialised is because the Welsh side’s offer ‘didn’t suit them’.

However, the player’s entourage feel differently, stating ‘other intermediaries got involved and there was a lot of bad vibes on all side’.

Gory is said to be disappointed, but has since moved on, returning to training with his teammates and preparing the long season ahead after speaking with his manager, Paul Le Guen.

Crystal Palace are continuing their attempts to sign Victor Camarasa from Real Betis, and the signs from Seville are looking promising for the London club.

Several Premier League clubs have been interested in the player since he impressed whilst on loan at Cardiff City last season.

After Palace’s attempts there were claims from Spain that Burnley had moved into the picture and were trying to snatch Camarasa away from their rivals, however, that competition now seems to have dropped back.

Estadio Deportivo reports Camarasa has been given permission by Betis to speak to Crystal Palace about a move to the club. Talks are said to be ‘so advanced’ that he didn’t train with Betis on Tuesday, perhaps to avoid any chance of picking up a transfer ending injury.

Betis are clearly keen on the deal, which could see them earn €13.5m if a p\aying percentage clause in the loan is triggered, and that could help make Camarasa’s mind up over a move.

He had been hesitating, yet if his current club would rather he leaves it helps focus the mind on an exit.

Estadio Deportivo say he ‘may be living his last moments’ as a Betis player.
