Sunderland are today named in the battle for Universidad Catolica winger Alexander Aravena.

The story comes from Brazil, where Globo Esporte details Athletico Paranaense’s interest in the 21-year-old.

The Furacão made contact to get more information on Aravena’s potential move, as his contract with Universidad Catolica expires at the end of the year and he’ll soon be a free agent.

That’s where Sunderland come in, as the Black Cats are said to be one of the clubs who made an approach in the summer window, as well as AZ Alkmaar, Club Brugge and Granada. Reports from Portugal claim Benfica also recently scouted the player.

For now, there’s no information on whether any of those clubs lead the race for him, especially because this situation could even draw more interested sides to the battle.

Aravena has 12 goals and six assists in 31 appearances for Universidad Catolica this season. He’s been getting some minutes with the Chilean national team in the World Cup qualifiers recently, and that’s perhaps where he drew the attention from Sunderland and other European sides.

Having tried to sign Edouard Michut again, it’s clear that Sunderland AFC want a new midfielder before the end of the transfer window.

They may not be getting the young Frenchman, but they are going after an alternative who goes by the name of Miguel Crespo.

This is what Sports Digital journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu has revealed on Friday afternoon, as he claims Sunderland have ‘officially contacted’ Fenerbahçe about a deal.

The 26-year-old has made three appearances to date this season with the Turkish side, all in the Conference League qualifiers, but doesn’t appear to be a first-team regular for them.

That has opened the door for an exit for the 26-year-old, which Sunderland are trying to take advantage of, as they continue to stay busy on transfer deadline day.

Crespo has been in Turkey since 2021, when he signed for Fenerbahçe for €1.5m from Estoril Praia in Portugal.

This comes after claims they had reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Timothée Pembélé from Paris Saint-Germain, with the right-back set to sign a long-term contract at the Stadium of Light.

As well as trying to seal a late deal for Edouard Michut, Sunderland are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain for another player.

That man is defender Timothée Pembélé, and it appears the Black Cats are getting closer to getting the transfer over the line.

The news comes from RMC Sport in France, who report that an ‘agreement in principle’ has been reached between the Ligue 1 champions and the Championship side regarding the 20-year-old’s transfer.

The amount isn’t revealed, but what is is that a ‘long-term contract’ is awaiting the player at the Stadium of Light, with the English side ready to commit long-term to the defender.

His versatility is likely to be one of the reasons why Sunderland are after him, but it remains to be seen whether the two sides will be able to get the deal officially done on time.

There is still ample time left to get it sorted, but we all know how even the smallest details can scupper transfers late on in the transfer window.

The right-back has been at Paris Saint-Germain since joining in 2015, and spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Girondins de Bordeaux.

As AC Milan currently negotiate signing Mehdi Taremi from FC Porto, it seems they had another striker put on their table.

According to Milan News, Southampton centre-forward Sekou Mara was offered to the Rossoneri.

The report claims that Milan, however, haven’t shown much interest in the Saints player.

The Serie A giants are said to be completely focused on signing Taremi, for whom they have held advanced talks, and will continue with that objective for now.

The outlet doesn’t make it clear whether Milan would consider Mara as a Plan B, or even how much it’d take to sign him from Southampton.

Mara has only played 79 minutes for the Saints this season, and it wouldn’t be a big surprise if he leaves before the deadline. However, perhaps AC Milan is a step too far.

At the end of the last season, it had been claimed that a few French clubs had been interested in signing him, but it now seems like none of them actually came forward for the signing.

Mara is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €10m, and has a contract with Southampton running until 2026.

Sunderland have failed in an attempt to sign Alan Virginius from LOSC Lille, according to reports from France.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins says the Black Cats placed a €5m offer for the winger.

Lille rejected the bid, and there’s no information on whether Sunderland could be back with a higher proposal.

Hawkins points out that it’s Kyril Louis-Dreyfus who’s in charge of bringing Virginius to the Stadium of Light.

The player, however, doesn’t seem so keen on the move. It’s claimed that he’s ‘focused’ on his time with Lille, especially because they’ll be playing the Conference League this season.

Featuring for the Ligue 1 side last season, the youngster made 23 appearances and scored four goals, being used both as a left winger and as a centre-forward.

Virginius has a contract with Lille running until 2027, and is valued by Transfermarkt at €4m.

Sunderland have only spent €4.9m in signings this summer so far, and are still looking to bring a new winger.

We now have to wait and see whether they manage to come in with an improved bid or if Louis-Dreyfus decides it’s time to move onto other targets.

With Bradley Dack the only one of six signings above the age of 20 arriving at Sunderland, it’s fair to say that the Black Cats are banking on youth under Tony Mowbray next season.

However, the former Blackburn man could soon be joined by another, more, let’s say, experienced signing, as the Championship side are reportedly trying to sign Colin Dagba from Paris Saint-Germain.

The news comes from Foot Mercato, who headline the article by stating that an ‘exit door is opening’ for the right-back, which Sunderland have stuck their foot in.

Loaned out to Strasbourg last year, the defender never managed to impose himself with the Ligue 1 side, and was sent back to Paris.

With two years left on his current contract, it’s written that he could ‘bounce back in England’, because discussions are ‘currently taking place’ with Sunderland.

The idea would be to agree on a permanent deal for the 24-year-old, and that’s what all parties are currently working on.

Arriving at Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, the defender has made 77 appearances in all competitions for the Ligue 1 side, scored one goal and assisted another six.

It was reported a while back that Sunderland AFC were interested in signing FC Sochaux Montbéliard’s Eliezer Mayenda.

The French club are currently in the middle of a crisis, having been relegated after failing their check in front of the DNCG, the league’s financial watchdog, meaning a few sales could do them the world of good.

Sunderland were looking to capitalise on this, having targeted the young Spaniard to bolster their Championship squad, as they bank on youth this summer, and Foot Mercato provide an update on Thursday.

The news comes via their journalist Santi Aouna, who claims on Twitter that an ‘agreement’ was found between Sochaux and the Black Cats, but there’s been a hiccup.

That’s because the deal is ‘momentarily blocked’ because the French club are now ‘asking for more money’.

Down the player’s end, it’s said the 18-year-old ‘wants’ to move to Sunderland, where he clearly sees himself growing as a footballer going forward rather than being stuck in National if Sochaux cannot sort out their finances.

L’Equipe also add a bit more, stating that while the original agreed fee was €800k + 20% of a future sale, Sochaux are now asking for €1.5m.

Sunderland AFC are continuing their recruitment process of targeting young prospects, having already bought a few this summer.

The arrivals of Jenson Seelt, Jobe Bellingham, Nectarios Triantis and Luís Semedo are all for the future and the present at the Stadium of Light, and Foot Mercato in France believe another forward is being looked at.

The man in question is Eliezer Mayenda, who plays for FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in France, who have just been forcefully relegated to National 1 after failing their inspection in front of the league’s financial watchdog, the DNCG.

Therefore, a few talents have already left, and Mayenda could swiftly follow suit, as Sunderland are one of the clubs interested in him.

The 18-year-old, who has represented Spain’s U17s three times, was used sparingly in Ligue 2 last year, but managed to score one goal in 15 appearances in the league, with just one start.

Still, that appears to have been enough to catch the eye of Sunderland, who are ‘very interested’ at the idea of bringing the youngster to the Stadium of Light.

For how much isn’t said, but considering the need for money over at Sochaux these days, it could be relatively cheap.

Coventry City and Sunderland are two of the clubs interested in Manchester United youngster Noam Emeran, according to reports today.

The 20-year-old got big attention from club fans this week, as he had a goal and an assist in the Red Devils’ first pre-season match against Leeds United.

Now as reported by French outlet Foot Mercato, the Manchester United winger draws the interest from several sides, with Coventry City and Sunderland among them.

All the clubs who currently chase Emeran are looking for a loan, as they know the Red Devils wouldn’t just give up on a promising player, seen as a ‘fearsome dribbler’, who could be having his first season with the first-team.

It’s said Anderlecht, Strasbourg and Vitesse are some of the clubs willing to take the youngster abroad, while Coventry City and Sunderland could keep him in England.

The clubs are still trying to understand the viability of a deal, as Manchester United could loan him out to gain experience somewhere else.

So far, there’s no information telling if any of those clubs have the lead in the race for the 20-year-old.

Sunderland are working for the signing of Benfica youngster Luis Semedo, according to reports from Portugal.

Newspaper Record today writes that the 19-year-old is ‘close to signing’ for the Black Cats this summer.

It’s said that the striker is leaving the Eagles and ‘everything indicates’ he’s heading to Sunderland.

The newspaper recalls that Benfica’s intention was to keep Semedo in their squad. However, despite their efforts to renew his contract, they were unsuccessful.

With ‘tempting offers’ on the table, the youngster never gave the Eagles a big chance for the extension, especially because he wasn’t sure he’d be used in the first team.

That’s why he’s now set to join Sunderland for free, even though there are no details on when that signing should be announced by the Black Cats.

Curiously enough, Tony Mowbray’s side wasn’t the only one interested in taking Semedo to England this summer.

Recent reports from the Italian media claimed Brighton & Hove Albion were also keen on signing him for free.

Record’s story, though, makes it really seems like Sunderland have won the race to bring him from Estadio da Luz to the Stadium of Light, maybe by offering the youngster a place in the first team.
