Yerry Mina is “finally starting to smile” after making his long-awaited debut for Fiorentina after arriving at the club still plagued by his Everton injury issues.

That’s according to his agent, who says the defender is dreaming of bouncing back after a difficult few years at Goodison Park.

Mina joined Fiorentina on a free transfer in the summer after his contract came to an end at Everton and neither party wanted a renewal.

The Colombian spent five years with Everton following a €30.25m move from Barcelona in 2018 but was beset by various injury issues during his time at the club, suffering with foot, thigh, knee, ankle and muscles injuries over the years.

It meant he managed 99 appearances for the club in total, a disappointing return for a player who cost so much and was also handed big wages to boot.

The hope had been that he could bounce back at Fiorentina but that has not proven to be the case, with injury issues continuing to plague him and meaning he only made his debut last weekend.

That saw him appear as a striker late on in the loss to Juventus and his agent has admitted he is now smiling again after a difficult period for him.

“Obviously it is not the debut he dreamed of, coming into a game a goal down and against such an important rival, but it is undoubtedly a motivation for Yerry who has been dreaming of this debut for a long time,” AS report Simone Rondanini saying.

“When a player does not take the field, whether due to injury or technical decision, it is not easy to accept it and he has suffered a little in recent weeks, but he is finally starting to smile.”

“As far as Serie A is concerned, it was one of the first objectives in the period after the Premier League and we had often talked about it.”
